John Godden’s Biography

John Godden has over 25 years of experience as a home and heating system designer and hands-on builder with projects that include the “Clearsphere” a CHBC EnviroHome. A graduate of the Bachelor of Environmental Studies at the University of Waterloo, John is a leading rater and consultant for the R-2000, ENERGY STAR, EnerGuide and LEED for Homes programs. John co-designed ENERGY STAR workshops for builders and advisors in Ontario and regularly delivers seminars on air-tightness, better building practices, and green sales and marketing.

John is a R-2000 Quality Assurance professional, a member of the Building Canada team, member of HRAI and a member of the ENERGY STAR Technical Committee, and the lead technical consultant to the Green Builder Challenge. John is a board member of the Canadian Residential Energy Service Network (CRESNET) and the Sustainable Housing Foundation. He was a member of the national technical committee that developed the LEED Canada for Homes program.  In partnership with the Town of Newmarket, John is the principal consultant for Rodeo Fine Homes who is building Canada’s Greenest Community comprised of thirty-four LEED Platinum Homes with will be complete in 2011. Currently, John is working with Royal Pine Homes and the Town of Richmond Hill on a sub-division of 115 low energy homes with all solar thermal water heating.

  • Certified and inspected over 10,000 R-2000 homes, ENERGY STAR, and EnerGuide homes
  • Certified R-2000 EnviroHome Builder (20 years)

Construction and Renovation Experience

  • 25 years new home and renovation construction experience and contractor management
  • Renovated 3 houses to the R-2000 standard with a 1.5 ACH
  • Built the first retrofit in Canada to achieve EnerGuide 84 in 2001
  • Built 15 houses as a registered R-2000 builder
